We all know the history of humans and dogs – friends through thick and thin. The often-quoted author George Eliot once said that animals are our most agreeable friends, who ask no questions and pass no criticisms.
Thomas, a 29 year old Wooloongabba local, was feeling thoroughly uncriticised for this great adventure he was taking with his Retriever, in being stranded following a roadside car disaster after an hour of fun in the park.
When I arrived, I couldn’t believe my eyes. Somehow, thanks to the rain the night before, his Ford Falcon Wagon had slipped right off of the wet grass and into a pole – popping the drivers’ side tyre.
After assessing the state of the car, I carefully moved it off the pole and back onto the footpath. I got out of the car and looked – someone had nailed something to the pole and the wall of the tyre was shredded. It was not his lucky day. Having his dog, Thomas couldn’t take a cab home, or even a bus. Besides the unusual situation, Thomas admitted he didn’t know how to change a tyre anyway.
Soon after, the tyre was replaced, and Thomas was on his way.
